Councilor Judy Pineda Neufeld Nominated for Latino Excellence Awards

Somerville Ward 7 City Councilor Judy Pineda Neufeld has been nominated for the 2022 Latino Excellence Awards. The awards are done by the Massachusetts State House’s Black and Latino Legislative Caucus to commemorate Latinx Community leaders and trailblazers who are moving the needle forward in cities and towns across the state. Councilor Pineda Neufeld was nominated alongside Ward 5 City Councilor Beatriz Gomez-Mouakad by Somerville State Senator Patricia Jehlen and Representative Christine Barber.

“I am grateful to Senator Jehlen and Representative Barber for nominating myself and my colleague Councilor Gomez-Mouakad for the Latino Excellence Awards!” said Councilor Pineda Neufeld. “I am honored to be among a group of such incredible Latino leaders, and excited to celebrate with Sen. Jehlen, Rep. Barber, and Councilor Gomez-Mouakad!”

Pineda Neufeld and Gomez-Mouakad became the first two Latinas to serve on the Somerville City Council following the 2021 municipal elections. Together they have been advocates for equity and justice on the council, serving as leading voices for the Latinos, immigrant families, and the broader Somerville community.
