"I'm thrilled to receive the endorsement of the Ward 7 Democratic Committee,” said Judy. “I've been fighting for equity and justice my whole career and am looking forward to bringing my progressive values and tireless work ethic to advocate for the residents of Ward 7 on the City Council."

Judy Pineda Neufeld is the daughter of immigrants, a small business owner, and a public servant to the City of Somerville as the head of the Immigrant Services Unit under the city's Covid operations. She is a strategic planner who has spent her career developing comprehensive plans for city departments and large national non-profits. She is seeking the open Ward 7 City Council seat currently held by Somerville mayoral candidate, Councilor Katjana Ballantyne. Her campaign has been endorsed by a diverse group of Somerville community leaders, including State Representative Christine Barber, Ward 7 School Committee Member Carrie Normand, former Ward 7 City Council Candidate and Boston Chief of Health and Human Services Marty Martinez, Immigrant Advocate Benjamin Echevarria, among others.

"Judy represents our strong community values in Ward 7 and throughout Somerville, and she has the lived and professional experience to deliver for us," said Democratic Ward Committee Vice Chair Toni Whitmore. "Judy has steadfastly supported our immigrant neighbors as the head of the Immigrant Services Unit, and as City Councilor, she will work to create a more affordable, accessible, and inclusive Somerville for all."

Judy and her three opponents have a preliminary election September 14, 2021 and the top two candidates will advance to the general election November 2, 2021.
